A flipped perspective on illegal immigration, this is a first person account of a US citizen working undocumented in Central America for US based companies. The English language and a US passport are a young woman's golden tickets to a world class illegal work experience. The conversations and anecdotes reveal truths from various perspectives including those of locals, tourists, foreign investors, illegal workers, globalized businesses, tenants, landlords, thieves, telemarketers, teachers, lovers, and mothers.

If you are into real life situations, this book is for you. The author is writing about her own life experiences with things that really happened to her while she was living abroad as an expat.

It is not an everyday occurrence that you will run across a book like this. The beauty of this is that, she took her time with not only giving her view points of how she felt but also giving opinions of how others felt.

It is not an easy life to live in another country and go without the legal documentation and not having much money to your name. However, if you are one that is bold enough to do so, it will be tough. Tough as in... Well, you just have to read this book, won't you?

It did not work out for Nell, it does work out for others, like myself. I guess I am just the type of person that thinks "that there will always be a way".

This is a very good read if you are interested in the harsh realities of how life is living abroad as a normal person without billions of dollars to your name.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is thinking about this lifestyle.

Not all is bad, there are plenty of good things too. She goes into depth not only on the way of living and her adventures but she also touches on a few political type of topics which I found interesting, in a good way.

I am the type of person that likes to read about how others view their own truths. So, this book works well for me.

This is an awesome book!
I really, really wanted to like this book enough to give it 5 stars. I can tell the author had her heart and soul in it.

My nephew and his wife recently visited Costa Rica to explore the possibilities available to live and work there permanently. They were not in a large town like Nell was so their experiences were somewhat different. However, a lot was the same. There are just not very many jobs there for an ex-pat. Even one with a good education.

I was totally into the book for about half of it. Then it was just "more of the same". I came to the conclusion Nell just transferred her day to day journal into the book, verbatim. She could have related much more than just gripping about the horrible working conditions at the call center.

I think she was a little too blasé about the dangers for a female foreigner traveling around the city at night and living in a foreign country. Even one as relatively safe as Costa Rica.

I won't comment on the ending of the book as that would be a spoiler. But I never saw that coming. There was not a hint up until the last few pages. So, I think back to the previous chapters; Why wasn't she telling us all along more about hers and Gabriel's personal lives. Now that would have been more interesting than what she and her co-workers had for lunch.

I was glad to read it and give my honest review. I don't think it was a total bust as I did get something out of the first half of it.
Great, easy read, fast paced, easy to keep up with. I wanted to keep reading and find out more about what the author was going through. Loved from start to finish!
